I never leave reviews, especially not bad ones but the service here was abysmal. From the moment we arrived we felt unwelcome. One woman was friendly enough but the other was rude and unfriendly, slamming food down on the table and treating us with general contempt. We couldn’t get out fast enough - less than an hour from arriving to leaving as we felt so uncomfortable. I saw her smiling at other people, so I’m not sure why she was so offended by us. To top it off she said “there’s a tip option” when I went to pay. I will happily tip for good service, but this was anything but. The food was also nothing special, there’s much better and more interesting vegan food in the world now.

Food was excellent. Service was quick, polite and helpful. Old world charm in a heritage building in Carlton. Thoroughly recommend it but you better hurry because they told us owners will be closing the doors by 23 December 2023 unless somebody rescues the business. We hope they continue on.

Love Shakahari and very sad to hear that they are likely to close their door for good. An institution in vegan cooking, I hope that it will somehow pull through and stay open.

I'm in Carlton area quite a bit and it's crazy that I've only discovered this place now tucked away on Faraday. If you get a table near the bar it's a lovely atmosphere with natural light coming through the ceiling. Really beautiful set up for a special occasion! Wonderful, genuinely down to earth people working here, especially our waiter on Thursday night ('Henry' it says on the receipt?). Fantastic menu and selection of vegan entrees, mains and desserts. Quick service. Great drinks. So happy to have found this place. Thank you Henry! :) :)
